Welcome to Grade One!
About Me
My name is Ivana Smith and I am pleased to be your child's teacher this year. I have been teaching for 30 years, mostly in grade one although I have taught grades two and three as well. I have three sons, aged 24, 26, and 28. I was born in the Czech Republic, came to Canada when I was 2 years old, and mostly grew up in Surrey. I am bilingual, speaking English and Czech. I live with my husband and our 6-year-old Husky/Shepherd named Kira in Newton. I love to read and have been known to ignore housework to finish a good book! I enjoy cooking most of the time and like collecting recipes and cook books. I love shopping and I am a big hockey fan (love my Canucks). I also like football (Go Lions!). I tolerate other sports because my husband is a sports nut and watching sports is a good way to spend time together! I enjoy going for walks, dinners out and travelling with my husband. We have done some extensive driving trips together, especially when the kids were younger; we've taken them to the Grand Canyon, Toronto, and Haida Gwaii, among other places. I love teaching young children and can't wait to share successes with your child. I am looking forward to spending this year with your child and making this year fun, exciting and full of learning!
